NEW YORK, December 5, 2016—Porchlight, a New York bar with a Southern accent, today announces “Camp Porchlight” to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a down-home, grown-up cocktail party that is an ode to summer camp. With unique camp-inspired cocktails and campfire fare, Camp Porchlight will bring revelers back to a simpler time of their youth. The evening’s entertainment includes high-energy live bluegrass, blues and country music by Boo Reiners, Elena Skye and the Demolition String Band, camp-themed games and a midnight toast.
Camp Porchlight will take place at Porchlight on December 31, 2016 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tickets are $170 per person, inclusive of all food and beverage, service and tax, and may be purchased at https://campporchlight.splashthat.com/. Ticketing fees will apply.
“Camp Porchlight channels one of our cherished childhood memories, summer camp, to transport our guests back to a simpler time of fun, games and camaraderie to usher in 2017,” says Mark Maynard-Parisi, Porchlight’s creator. “For many folks, New Year’s Eve is all about dressing up fancy and standing around at a formal party. That’s definitely not our style at Porchlight.”
“We’ve all been to New Year’s Eve events that are a bit stiff and seldom live up to their self-serious billing,” says Michael Shain, General Manager, Porchlight. “We’re a relaxed bunch of folks who take our fun seriously. Leaving pretense and convention behind, we are creating a new tradition with Camp Porchlight. To us, it is more than a party, it is a state of mind.”
Unique Camp-Themed Cocktails and Campfire Fare
The evening’s unique camp-themed cocktails, created by Head Bartender Nicholas Bennett, include the wittily titled Bug Juice, Bee Sting, Poison Ivy, Long Trail, Cabin Fever, R-Rated Feature and Adults-Only Hot Chocolate. They will be complemented by equally clever campfire fare, such as grilled items on a stick, hot dogs, packed lunches, s’mores, fondue and Porchlight-branded granola bars.
Live Music, Camp Games and a Midnight Bubbly Toast
Camp Porchlight will feature the high-energy bluegrass, blues and country music stylings of Boo Reiners, Elena Skye and the Demolition String Band throughout the evening. Additional entertainment includes camp-style games like corn hole and scavenger hunts, as well as drum circles, scary storytelling and campfire poetry. Boo Reiners will also lead the countdown to midnight and a toast with some bottles of bubbly.
Suggested Dress Code: Down-Home Casual
In place of tuxedos and gowns, the suggested dress code for Camp Porchlight is jeans, flannel shirts, comfy boots and a bandana or two.
Camp Porchlight Survival Kit and Sweet Treats
All guests will be outfitted with a Camp Porchlight Survival Kit to ensure their safety and fun throughout the event, no matter the weather. Good campers will also receive some sweet treats when they pack up for the night.
$20 from each ticket will be donated to Experience Camps, a non-profit that helps hundreds of grieving children cope with the loss of a parent by providing them with a summer camp experience.
