Strange Food Sunday

Vosges Haut-Chocolat Taste Test

Happy Strange Food Sunday! This week, we tried Vosges Haut-Chocolate. Founder, Katrina Markoff's was inspired to make this unique chocolate through her journeys around the world. Her fusion of indigenous spices, flowers, roots, herbs and liqueurs with premium chocolate creates a sensory experience that nurtures awareness of and appreciation for the world’s diverse cultures.

We tried 3 out of the 20 chocolate bar flavors; Reishi Mushroom & Walnut Bar, Smoke & Stout Caramel Bar, and Sri Lankan Coconut & Curry Bar. Each had a distinctive flavor that is not commonly found in chocolate, but should be!

Reishi Mushroom & Walnut Bar

Super Dark- says it right on the box for a reason! This superfoods' benefits include stress reduction, heart health, enhanced brain function and all around general wellness. Reishi mushrooms, aka the resurrection plant, is well known for reviving zombies and for causing accidental immortality to the normal person (ha, imagine?).

Smoke & Stout Caramel Bar

Another great dark chocolate that we tried, right at 70% cacao. The best part to me was that this combined the saltiness of the smoked salt and the sweetness of the chocolate, two opposite flavors that are abstract, but that go along so well (just like sweet and sour). As if the dark chocolate wasn't enough, the double chocolate stout (by Rogue Ales) gives our treat an even more rich, sweet, and coffee-like flavor. Enjoy responsibly people! (there's no alcohol in it, just the stout flavor that gives it the name)

Sri Lankan Coconut & Curry Bar

Lastly, the pairing of sweet Indian curry, Sri Lankan coconut and milk chocolate will apparently give you the ride of your life. Lets stake a step back; have you ever been in one of those sensory deprivation chambers? I have not, but perhaps this is the closest I will get. When I read the description that they have on the box for this flavor, I thought I would have an out of body experience. You breath, see, smell, taste, and texturize this chocolate. The part we enjoyed the most was just how deep and warm the flavors were on this one!
